Let's talk about Cashmere ...

Cashmere is an animal fiber, derived from the long, silky undercoat of cashmere goats, the Capra Hircus breed. 2 to 6 goats will be needed to make a model since each goat gives between 100 and 200 grams of cashmere. There are different types of fibers: BRUTE: The fiber has not been processed and comes directly from the animal. TREATED: this is the fiber when the less fine hairs have been removed, it is washed, carded (carding consists of disentangling and aerating the fibers). It is ready to be made into knitting yarns. VIRGIN: The fiber is made into yarns, fabrics or clothing for the first time. RECYCLED: These are residues of fabrics that have already been woven or felted that may have already been used.

The Cashmere Gauge

It determines the spacing of the stitches between them. A 12 gauge corresponds to a very tight mesh and on the contrary a 7 gauge will give a larger mesh. We commonly use gauges 12 7 and 5. Gg is the abbreviation for gauge which designates the fineness of the knitted garment. This denotes the number of stitches per inch on the knitting machine 12 gg this means that 12 needles knit over 1 inch (2.54 cm) in the needle plate. The higher the number of gg, the finer the knitting because more needles work on the same surface.

The number of wires used

The number of threads determines the density of the material. We currently use 2 and 4 sons for Ulaane. The threads are twisted (or twisted). The higher the number of threads, the thicker the sweater will be. Cashmere achieves the feat of being both an outstanding thermoregulator AND a fiber of exemplary lightness, 10 times lighter than wool.

Caring for your cashmere garment

Machine wash cold, between 20 and 30 degrees maximum, better than washing by hand or it may be deformed by twisting it for spinning ... The more it is washed, the more beautiful it will be and will last a long time. In practice, slip it into a pillowcase with a little detergent without softener spin max 400 turns, dry flat and lightly steam iron very gently ... No worry in case of pilling, they will disappear after several washes and are the assurance of a new and quality cashmere.
